More Tears For Fears, but I happily found this one today—the U.K. 7-inch for “Woman In Chains,” with a limited-edition button set playing into the lyric “The sun and the moon; the wind and the rain.” Pretty cool to find this still sealed after 30 years.

Another find from Montreal—a rare-as-hen’s-teeth Tears For Fears promotional interview LP from their Canadian record company. It’s a holy grail item amongst the band’s collectors.

Put your hands away.

Old Stray Cats “Gene & Eddie” promo 12”.

Under the sky, this promo 12” of Robyn Hitchcock shows its nearly hidden smoky purple much better. Released to promote “Madonna of the Wasps,” the B-side features him playing Roxy Music’s “More Than This” live on solo acoustic guitar and it’s spellbinding.

So this wound up in my possession this week—a hanging promotional mobile from the UK for Tears For Fears, sent out to record stores there to hang up and hype the forgotten last single from Songs from the Big Chair.

Billy Joel Inter Chords—This is a promo album from around The Stranger (1977) that interviews a fairly inarticulate Young Billy about the album, interspersed with songs including a live track from the moderately rare Souvenir promo EP.

I picked this up a week ago when I was in Vegas for the NAB Convention; it’s the radio promo 12” for “Don’t You (Forget About Me)”—the song that broke Simple Minds in the U.S. I’ve heard it a million times, of course, so I was in no rush to put it on when I got home and I didn’t pull it out of the sleeve until today. It was a typical black vinyl record—until I turned and the light from the window shone behind it; suddenly I could see my hand through the vinyl! Pretty cool—if you put a light source behind the record, it turns a cool translucent grayish-brown, making it one record I won’t forget about.
