  • Dimension Hatröss (1988)

  • Nothingface (1989)

Time to Voivod.  I’m not sure why Away doesn’t get mentioned in all those “best metal drummer” convos; he hits the skins as hard as anyone and has more prog chops that the vast majority.

TEA & SYMPHONY An Asylum For The Musically…

TEA & SYMPHONY An Asylum For The Musically Insane. Rare 1969 UK 9-track LP of ‘Progressive Folk’ by the talented trio, with ‘Gramophone Co’ label perimeter text & without EMI logo, wonderful front laminated gatefold picture sleeve. The sleeve on this copy shows just a little shelfwear along the top edge and two tiny areas of paper loss along the spine [these are barely visible], otherwise the laminate is crisp and the colours bright and vivid. The vinyl is stunning and looks barely played, there are some faint, whispy hairlines if held under strong light but nothing that affects play, there is no spindle wear or any other unsightly marks/scuffs to the disc and it easily grades Excellent – A wonderful copy of this very hard to find album.

COLOSSEUM Valentyne Suite. Original 1969 UK 5-…

COLOSSEUM Valentyne Suite. Original 1969 UK 5-track stereo LP on the large Vertigo ‘swirl’ label with ‘A Phillips Record Product’ credit at the bottom, opening with the classic, The Kettle, housed in a superb Keef designed gatefold picture sleeve with die-cut ‘swirl’ inner. The cover is Excellent & is especially nice considering it was never laminated. There are some light scuffs around the edges [thin 1" hairline split to a top edge] & the panels remain nice & sturdy with no writing& all text is clearly legible, including the spine. The vinyl is Excellent to Near Mint with very few signs of play. Recommended.

THE JOHN DUMMER BLUES BAND Blue. Rare 1972 first UK issue 7-track vinyl LP on the Vertigo ‘swirl’ label, with machine stamped matrices reading 1Y//1>420 & 2Y//1>420, housed in a special die-cut gatefold matte sleeve designed by Roger Dean & complete with a ‘swirl’ die-cut inner.

The sleeve must be one of the toughest Roger Dean covers to find if you’re looking for original cover art by this great designer. A very subtle but effective blue title layout on an all over red, with die-cut spray stencil effect, the sleeve is a decent VG/VG- copy. The die-cut area is very delicate & thin but intact & secure but does dispplay some minor wear.
There is some corner creasing & edge scuffing, with a couple of nicks on the back, all text is legible & most of the wear can be forgiveable considering it was never laminated. It also comes complete with the ‘swirl’ die-cut inner.

The labels are the first press design & the heavyweight vinyl appears clean. There are some spindle marks by the centre hole to indicate some turntable action & no blemishes to the print. A past owner has written their name neatly on both labels

On close inspection we would grade the vinyl VG+/EX-. There are a handful of very faint paper scuffs & the odd mild hairline, none of which effects play & sound quality remains exceptional. By no means mint, this is an agreeable copy of one of the rarest Vertigo titles out there.

IAN CARR Belladonna. Rare 1972 UK small swirl …

IAN CARR Belladonna. Rare 1972 UK small swirl label 6-track stereo vinyl LP by the legendary NUCLEUS player, produced by Colosseum drummer Jon Hiseman, matt gatefold picture sleeve.

A glorious album from the late trumpeter, which even rivals Miles Davis’ work of the period, including the beautiful and exotic Summer Rain with crisp drum breaks, Fender Rhodes, the works! Allan Holdsworth, Gordon Beck and Trevor Tomkins all star.

The sleeve shows just a little light shelfwear with few signs of being over forty five years old. The vinyl remains in excellent condition with just a few light surface scuffs and spindle marks around the centre hole evident.
A very nice copy of this very rare album.

Karl Hector And The Malcouns ‎– Non Ex Orbis
Now Again Records (2019)

Blind pick, first needledrop, no prior knowledge. The hype sticker says Krautrock/Spacejazz so I immediately think it’s a reissue of an obscure krautrock lp.  Now Again are my vinyl guide to many amazing records and even more amazing stories, I assumed retro and the opening track sounded like the kind of krautrock my prog rock friends would dig.

This is new material.  Fourth spin happening right now.  There are far too many namedrops that could help describe this phenomenal, druggy musical stew.  I didn’t read too much into the history of the band but there’s a connection to the Poets Of Rhythm and bands like Can get mentioned. If you’re a fan of what I loosely describe as “70s drug music” and like exploring, this is a ride you’re gonna want to take.  This will stay regular rotation, enthusiastic recommend!

I don’t have a buy link for you (sorry) but it’s available at all of your better indie shops. RSD is next Friday, look for it and share your thoughts in the comments!

SAVOY BROWN Blue Matter. Scarce 1969 UK 8-trac…

SAVOY BROWN Blue Matter. Scarce 1969 UK 8-track stereo vinyl LP on the unboxed Decca label, front laminated picture sleeve with pinched spine, liner notes on the reverse by producer Mike Vernon & die-cut mono/stereo identifier hole on the reverse and with blue-for-stereo poly-lined inner. The sleeve displays only light wear with some laminate lift along the spine whilst the non-laminated back looks really clean has has just light signs of age. The labels have just a couple of light marks around the spindle hole to show only light signs of play, and the vinyl is excellent with just light signs of play. A really nice example.

The Cantebury scene goes jazz!  They named the band after a William Burroughs novel, and it just got weirder from there.
