A nice US picture disc for a change – Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Band On The Run,” pressed up in 1978.

THE BEATLES Christmas Fun With The Beatles. Rare 1986 Japanese-only 7-track mono 10" LP, pressed on White Vinyl by the independent but official Diskport label. Compiles previously unreleased material from 1963-69, otherwise only available on the fan club flexi 7"s series, housed in a gold-titled Christmas themed sleeve with an eight page fold-out lyric booklet & obi-strip. THE BEATLES The Singles Collection. 2019 UK limited edition Twenty Three 7" single set pressed on 180gram Heavyweight Vinyl. From 1962 to 1970, The Beatles released 22 UK singles; of those 44 A and B-side tracks, 29 were not included on the group’s British albums at that time. These singles, along with an exclusive new double A-side single for the mid-1990s-issued tracks ‘Free As A Bird’ and ‘Real Love’, newly cut for vinyl from their original mono and stereo master tapes by Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios for this set. All 23 discs are BRAND NEW & unplayed and sit nestled inside faithfully reproduced international picture sleeves and come accompanied by a 40-page booklet containing photos, ephemera and detailed essays by Beatles historian Kevin Howlett, within a blue title printed box with a slide-out drawer. Yesterday, I picked up Paul McCartney’s Black Friday single—a limited edition picture disk with two new songs, “Home Tonight" and “In A Hurry.” Pretty cool. Of course, when you’re Paul McCartney, “limited edition” means 12,000 were pressed.

The special “world tour edition” of Paul McCartney’s “Flowers in the Dirt” album from 1989 came with a ton of stuff—postcards, two huge posters, a bumper sticker, a one-sided 45 with a throwaway track recorded with the touring band (“Party Party”), booklets and the album, all housed in a flimsy, easily torn envelope made to look like a road case (if only it was that durable!). The family tree poster, showing the lineage of the touring band, is particularly awesome to read—as was spotting the Madison Square Garden show we went to all those years ago in the tour itinerary (thanks once again, Renee!).

PAUL & LINDA MCCARTNEY Ram. Archive quality 1971 UK first issue 12-track vinyl LP with ‘An EMI Recording’ Apple labels, fully laminated gatefold picture sleeve & plain Apple paper inner. This copy was purchased and stored whilst the owner wasabroad, leaving it unplayed for nearly fifty years… and it shows, looking as if it was just plucked from the shelf of the record shop in 1971, impossible to beat – Ram On Indeed.

THE BEATLES Abbey Road. Super rare 1987 UK LP pressed on RED VINYL – a factory custom pressing dating from around 1987 when their catalogue was digitally remastered & reissued on vinyl, with finished Abbey Road labels & correct machine stamped matrix numbers of ‘YEX 749-7-1-1’ & ‘YEX 750-5-1-1’ – this is one of only four known copies in existence! From the personal archive of a retired senior engineer with more than 25 years of service at the worldfamous EMI manufacturing plants in Blyth Road and Uxbridge Road, Middlesex. This copy has remained in his possession since its creation and is now being offered for sale for the very first time, complete with the barcoded glossy picture sleeve. The vinyl has never seen a turntable.

Twelve years ago, when Paul McCartney quietly released Amoeba’s Secret (top photos), a six-song live EP of a promo show he did at Amoeba Records in LA, it looked crappy, like a bootleg—cover photo with lots of.digital artifacts, and laser-printed stickers for labels. It was barebones and chintzy, even for 2007, the last year before vinyl began its amazing comeback. I’m guessing it was some kind of contractual obligation, because whoever put it together barely gave a damn and it showed.
Now Sir Paul has re-released it as a two-LP set of the entire show, rechristened Amoeba Gig (bottom photos). The design has been updated, with the photo now slightly less digitized, actual text in the back, real labels that visually reference the cruddy stickers used last time, and if you can find it, clear and yellow vinyl copies. As for the show, it still sounds great, only now there’s more of it!

Another find from Montreal—Paul McCartney on 10” vinyl in a fold-out sleeve. There were apparently only 6,000 made and this one was sealed, but given that it flopped over 30 years ago, it don’t think I ruined its value by finally opening it. In truth, I always liked “Press,” but I’m in the minority there. Good enough tune, but it’s imbued with a forced casualness that belies its pseudo-tossed off “flight of fancy” disguise.
