Mulatu Astatke featuring Fekade Amde Maskal = ሙላቱ አስታጥቄ* ጋር ከፋቃደ አሞደ መስቀል* – Ethio Jazz = የካተት (1974)

Primo 70′s jazz funk from Ethiopia.  The Facebooks just announced that Mulatu Astatke is playing my city tonight, but lately my back’s been messed up to the point of not being able to get around without the help of a cane. No Mulatu show for me tonight, the records will have to do.
Give it a listen, trust the afros on the album cover.  Afros never steered me wrong.

Amanaz ‎– Africa
Now-Again Records ‎– NA 5123
2 × LP
Released: (2015 Reissue)

Zamrock essential!  So happy to finally own a copy.  Now Again always deliver the goods. It’s a label I feel comfortable buying anything from, without listening first.

NEW RELEASE (RSD Black Friday 2018)
(Ltd 1000 Copies)

Ofege ‎– The Last Of The Origins
Tidal Waves Music ‎– TWM24
Released: 1976 (23 Nov 2018 Reissue)

Mid 70’s Nigerian psych-disco!  This was among the more interesting releases on this year’s list, a lo-fi funk stomper with just enough guitar solo to get me in a Funkadelic/Santana type head space.

VMP Exclusive #324/750

Mr Bongo ‎– MRBLP163, EMI ‎– NEMI (LP) 0184

Mr. Bongo Bundle, LP 2/3
Nigerian 70’s super funk. I played side one of this yesterday as well, remember that James Brown/Kool & The Gang sounding Africa sound? This. Proper listening confirms a good pressing as well. This yellow one is a VMP exclusive but Mr. Bongo also released a regular version, which should be available in your local shops that carry this sort of awesome.

This was the afrobeat album I was playing for some of you, on yesterday’s live feed.  Yesterday was the first needledrop, it was AWESOME to see how many of you dug it.  It was even more awesome to be able to have a community spin sesh like we did.  I’m giving this a proper spin today.  Side 2 is every bit as amazing as side one, funky as funky can be.  Immediate recommend, for fans of Fela and funky 70s Africa in general.
